Match report: Gurteen Celtic 2-2 Carbury

Carbury netted a 89th minute penalty to earn a late draw against Gurteen Celtic in Gurteen on Sunday, February 16 at the fabulous new astro pitch in Gurteen.

The home side had overturned a 1-0 deficit to lead 2-1 until the very end, with Cian Kilcoyne’s penalty meaning a share of the spoils.

Carbury went ahead early on courtesy of a Kyle Cawley long range effort after just 7 minutes.

Gurteen levelled the score on 22 minutes when Caelan Hunt beat Johnny Lynch from close range.

And six minutes later Gurteen took the lead when Sweeney’s effort was deflected into the net.

The home side took a 2-1 lead into the second half with Carbury struggling to threaten the Gurteen rearguard after going ahead.

The Sligo town side peppered the Gurteen box throughout the second half, missing chance after chance.

It looked as though this was going to go the way of Gurteen, until the 89th minute when Ross McLoughlin was upended in the box.
