Sligo Southern Hotel Super League club

Match report: Carbury FC 6-0 Merville Utd

Cian Kilcoyne scored a hat-trick as Carbury were comfortable 6-0 winners over Merville United at McSharry Park on Sunday morning in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League.

New signing Seamas Keogh, previously of Southampton, Sligo Rovers and Finn Harps set up two and scored one.

It’s two win in six league games for Carbury now, having come from behind to draw with Gurteen last week after beating Calry Bohs 3-1 the previous week.

Defeats to Cartron United and St Johns see Damien Dunleavy’s side sitting in fourth.

Both sides had chances early on with Mark McGoldrick and Mark Hannon going close, while Merville hit the crossbar on 12 minutes.

Cian Kilcoyne got his first on 20 minutes as he fired in from Zach Gilligan’s cross from the left.

Four minutes later it was 2-0 as Jason Devaney got on the end of debutant Seamas Keogh’s ball to extend Carbury’s lead.

Ben Gavin held onto Conor White’s effort five minutes later as Merville tried to find a way back into this game.

A spectacular effort from Adam Lynch from the left a few yards inside the Carbury half had Ben Gavin stretching, but it hit the crossbar.

A long-range effort from Zach Gilligan smacked the crossbar shortly after the restart.

Carbury extended their lead in the second half as Keogh and Kilcoyne played a lovely one-two, with Kilcoyne finishing past Tony Clarke to make it 3-0 on the hour mark.

Keogh got the goal his debut deserved on 62 minutes when he tucked his shot past Clarke.

Mark McGoldrick added a fifth on 70 minutes after Gary Farren squared the ball for James Heraghty.

Heraghty’s effort but the underside of the crossbar, with McGoldrick on hand to tap in the follow up.

A spectacular volley from Kilcoyne late on in the game was the pick of the bunch as he volleyed it in from a corner.

Ray Walsh’s effort hit the crossbar late on, before Ben Gavin in the Carbury goals had to push away David Lynch’s shot to keep hold of a clean sheet.

Carbury will be back in action on Wednesday evening when we take on the league leaders Cartron United in the semi-final of the Frank Kennedy Memorial Cup at McSharry Park.
