CHAMPIONS!
Sligo Southern Hotel Super League
Carbury 5-1 Cartron Utd

Carbury claimed a sixth Sligo Southern Hotel Super League title in seven years on May 21st when they were 5-1 winners over Cartron Utd at MacSharry Park.
The win takes us five points ahead of Gurteen Celtic who have just one league game left.
With two games to go, we’ve reclaimed the league title after MCR stormed to league glory last year.
Well done to players and management on a brilliant season where we lost just once, drew two and won 19.
In a tight first half on Wednesday evening, Carbury showed their intent from early on.
A lovely ball from Steven Armstrong found Niall Brennan on the right, and Brennan’s inviting ball was met by Mark McGoldrick who just needed to poke it in.
But Cartron’s Ronan Callaghan made the angle tight and blocked the shot.
Jack Teape was alert to make the save from Josh Gilligan’s effort, before Cian Kilcoyne’s brilliant cross went across the face of the Cartron goal with McGoldrick watched closely by Cartron’s defence.
Teape was well placed to save from Jason Devaney on 21 minutes, before Carbury took the lead.
Cian Kilcoyne did brilliantly to set up Chris Kelly who dinked it over the keeper on 28 minutes.
It was a tight first half, and a closely fought contest for the first 45 minutes as Carbury looked for a second but Cartron were making it difficult.
But, Damien Dunleavy’s side really found their rhythm in the second half.
A penalty on 62 minutes was tucked away by Chris Kelly after the unfortunate Clive Brennan was adjudged to have handled the ball after Dylan Henry’s volley hit his hand in the box.
It was 3-0 just two minutes later when Niall Brennan burst forward and squared it for Kilcoyne who brilliantly found the net from an awkward angle.
And two minutes later, it was 4-0 as Kelly slipped Niall Brennan in.
On 72 minutes, Carbury added a fifth as Kilcoyne’s cross was fired in by James Heraghty.
Cartron’s heads never dropped, and they pulled one back in the 80th minute through substitute Luke McGuinn.
However, it was nothing more than a consolation as Carbury were crowned champions.
It’s an incredible six titles in 7 years, and one we had to battle hard for with Gurteen Celtic enjoying an incredible season.
Congrats to all.
A sincere thank you to all of our sponsors, it would not be possible without you.
